5th Grade Update

Social Studies Update 1


In social studies , we are learning about Black History Month. For black history month, we made posters to show very important people that helped earn equal rights. Me and my group decided to pick Jesse Jackson. We picked  Jesse Jackson because we really didn’t know much about him, so we thought it would be more interesting. There was so many interesting facts about Jesse. Did you know that Jesse Jackson ran for president?

Social Studies Update 2

In social studies we are learning about Black History Month. We had to do posters and Present them.I was a doing Walter Payton, And I did Maya Angelou.Walter Payton was famous for the most rushing yards in football and there was a reward named after him.Maya Angelou was famous for her poems. Walter Payton's nickname was sweetness.Maya Angelou's poems were so good the president gave her a medal. Walter Payton's nickname with sweetness because he was  really nice to people.She was the creator of Why the Caged Bird Sings.

4th Grade Update

Camp Story Write


CampStoryWrite, an annual attempt to help prepare the
4th grade students of Smithville Elementary for the writing STAAR test on March 29 2016.


CampStoryWrite, it is exactly like a camp except for we have writing packets that  Have two series of editing and revising questions.We are also allowed to bring sleeping bags, tents, flashlights, blankets,  and pillows. We also sing along to camp songs about writing. Each day we write a new story. Each day we have to follow one   rule  about writing.  Day 1 was  stay on topic, on day two, the rule was Figurative language , day three was good conclusions and good introductions, finally day four was chose one story and rewrite it following all of the rules we learned that week . So that was CampStoryWrite ,an annual attempt to prepare for the STAAR test. That is Amy and Avery signing off for this week's blog.



Music


Our School Musical is about a shark that want friends but the fish are scared of the shark, it’s called Go Fish. The musical is fun to some andit’s different than what you’d expect.The main character in the play is a Tiger Shark.There’s also Jellyfish,clownfish,crabs,seahorses,red snappers,extra fish,sharks, and other different fish.The musical is a nice thing to watch with the whole family.

3rd Grade Update

Music


In music we do lots of things.We mostly do  Quaver.On Quaver we do things like play instruments watch videos and play games.


All the videos we watch on Quaver are Music based.We watch some on playing instruments. We also watch some on keyboard. But most of all we learn to read music.The videos help us with activities we do.


We love playing games like guessing the keyboard letters in 30 seconds.

Social Studies: Black History Month

We've been learning about black history and social studies. There are very important people involved with black history. Two people that are involved in Black History is Martin Luther King Jr and Rosa Parks. Martin Luther King jr. was famous for his” I Have a Dream speech”. Rosa Parks famous for standing up to segregation. Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King jr. are very important people ,as you can see.

The people we've learned about so far that were involved with Black history are Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King jr.,Bessie Coleman, Dorothea Lange,Sojourner Truth and Jackie Robinson. They were all African Americans. Jackie Robinson was the first African American baseball player. Sojourner Truth was famous for her “ I ain't a woman speech “. They all stood up for African American’s rights.

Libraries

Do you have a favorite book ?If you don't,you can go to a library and find one .
They're different books for you to read in the library,like fiction and nonfiction.
Sometimes it is hard to find a good book. You can look on computers to find one of your favorite book.There are School library and Public Libraries.

Do you have a favorite author?There are different authors like Eric Carle,Judy Blume,Barbara Parks,and Jonathan London .

Libraries are great and awesome .
